India’s 50 Most Powerful People

India’s 50 Most Powerful People

I don’t know about this… I’ve never heard of some of the people in here, especially the fashion designers. Some of the bollywood people/cricket atheletes shouldn’t/may not be that popular. The technocrats, are very important, yes, but maybe not stupid governers of Orissa and West Bengal… like, Mayor of Mumbai or Gurgaon might be more important. Anyway, it just shows y’all about Indian people, and is primarily geared for non-Indian audiences, imo.

Vancouver Museum

Is very nice. I enjoyed the exhibits on Rice and the one on Allen Sapp’s paintings and the life of the Cree native Americans. The pictures were so simple and portrayed such natural actions, and there were so many different ones, that one could learn a lot about their daily life. The rice one was very good in that it talked about every geographical region where rice is grown and its significance to the people living in that area. Plus, there were also lots of paintings, embroideries and tapestries where rice was either the main subject or served the inspiration for the theme. Some of the fabrics on which the scenes were painted were made of rice straw and other rice-fibres.

I also liked the history of Vancouver exhibit. It’s a lot like the Ford Museum – a lot of objects from the daily lives of the Vancouver residents, such as instruments used in jobs, cooking utensils, toys, advertisement stuff – and a lot of photographs that showed the themes of aparticular time period. It was very enjoyable. The one thing I didn’t like about it was that the mannequin for white ladies had beautiful eyes and noses and lips on them (in other words, there was a face), while the Asian ones did not. I don’t understand why that was the case. Also, there wasn’t enough on the sikhs that migrated into this city. I mean, they are a significant part of the Asian immigration that occured in the early 20th century, but nothing interesting was portrayed about them. :(

Anyhoo, that was that. The supermarket here has a wise idea. TO ensure that people will not leave the business’ carts lying around the parking lot and occupying parking space (thereby causing general chaos) the customer can only access the cart by depositing a dollar, which can be recovered when the cart is put back into the dock after being used. Oh my god. That is so hack. I don’t have to go around rounding up stray carts in the hopes that some wise man would follow my example and help reduce the chaos.

Genius.

Obscured by Clouds, and book X

So, Chinese fireworks got pwned yesterday due to smoke that wouldn’t budge. In fact, there was so much smoke that you couldn’t see the “impressive” display unless it was extremely high. That said, we went to downtown Vancouver yesterday. There are so many 30-floor skyscrapers that it’s not funny. The skyline looks horizontal rather than jagged. Furthermore, I toured around the UBC campus and the area is pretty amazing. There are snow-capped mountains across the bay, and the rose-garden is just fantastic. I am going to the Vancouver Museum and the maritime museum today. That should be fun.

About the secret book I am reading, it’s very hilarious and sad. That’s all I will say.

Vancouver

Filed under: Summer '07 — Gilbert Keith @ 4:05 pm

I am in Vancouver right now.. It’s mostly same, just a little different, just like Milind Kaka said. Lot of greenery around here, and the air is definitely much cooler. The airport was a lot nicer, and, even though there were so many people who got off at the same time I did, I went thru the customs line pretty quickly. Then, signs are in kmph, fuel costs $/L. Metric system FINALLY.

Will post everyday.

Nature of Life

Hah. Two posts with “Nature” in them. :-p Anyway, I’m going to nature of life today, so if y’all are reading, I won’t be in town until Wednesday afternoon. I hope it doesn’t get too harsh up there weatherwise, because I’m assuming we’re going to be outdoors most of the time. Also, I want to finish reading these books so that I can get started on L’ Étranger by Albert Camus.

Moving

We move tomorrow
This house feels very empty.
Get rid of the junk.

Lot of paper here
And a mess of tangled wires.
Another late night.

Somebody tell me that’s technically right….
